Cougars Sweep Drexel in Weekend Doubleheader
This past weekend, the College of Charleston Men’s basketball team squared off against the Drexel Dragons in their first home double header.
The Cougars won both games, sweeping the season series.
The first game against the Dragons came down to the end as the Cougars won the game 61-60. Junior guard Zep Jasper was fouled on a three point attempt with 0.3 seconds left. He still managed to make all three free throws, clinching the win for the College.
Senior guard Payton Wills led the Cougars in scoring with 22 points. He also grabbed three rebounds and dished out three assists. His contributions on the offensive end helped the Cougars stay in the game throughout.
Zep Jasper grabbed two steals and led the team in assists with five. Jasper’s presence was felt throughout the game with his consistent hustle on both sides of the ball.
On Sunday, the Cougars started off the game strong but the Drexel Dragons gained the lead towards the end of the first half, going on a 17-7 run. The College regained the lead in the second half after going on a 16-0 run. The Cougars would hold on to the lead and won the game 73-68.
In Sunday’s game, Sophomore guard Brenden Tucker scored a career high of 35 points. He also led the game with five steals.
Defense was a key factor in this win as the Cougars held the Dragons to a 18.75% field goal percentage in the second half. Drexel just couldn’t find a rhythm in the second half, going scoreless for close to six minutes in the middle of the half.
This win extends the win streak to three for the College, bringing them to 5-6 for the season.
Their next pair of games are against Northeastern at home on January 16th and 17th at home.
